Part Four: What Our Directors Have to Say!

Welcome back to the Lucardo blog, friends, and the last post in this series! All month, I’ve been answering the top question we get asked by guests time and time again:

What Tips Have You Got for Solving an Escape Room?

I’m thrilled to say we’re wrapping up the series with a very special and exciting post indeed. To make sure I answered as thoroughly as possible, asked the question to our fabulous directors at Lucardo Rawtenstall – Simon and Molly! They gave me their own incredible takes and personal tips, which I’m honoured to be able to share with you today.

So, for the last time, here are some owner-approved tips on how to succeed in escape rooms, taken from true enthusiasts themselves!

Tip #1 – Be Vocal

The first tip Molly and Simon gave me is an all-important classic: communicate, communicate, communicate! By sharing your ideas, findings, and solutions out loud with your team, you’ll help ensure everyone is involved in the process, thus having fun and destined for success. It’ll also work to keep team members nice clear on what has been done already and what is still left to do, avoiding anyone lagging behind or getting stuck in a cycle.

(Plus, as game hosts, we absolutely love it when teams are vocal in their rooms, as it makes following your progress nice and easy from our end, too!)

Tip #2 – Teamwork Makes the Dreams Work

Molly and Simon have played hundreds of rooms at this point, and agreed that effective teamwork really is the key to success in these games!

Most escape rooms will feature a wide range of puzzles, testing skills including logic, agility, reasoning, observation, and more. Not everyone is going to be great with word puzzles, for example, just like how some will shy away from counting. Molly told me that she’d always encourage people to play to their strengths, and let everyone shine in the puzzles and tasks they enjoy the best.

Similarly, if you’re working on a puzzle you just don’t understand, get your pal over to check it out for you. Sometimes, all it needs is a fresh pair of eyes to spot a solution. You’re working as a team, after all – be sure to help each other out!

Tip #3 – Pay Attention to the Game

Another really great insight Simon and Molly shared was that they always make sure to pay close attention to the game itself, rather than just rush through puzzles. I’ve mentioned in previous posts about how a good understanding of the narrative of the room will not only add to your enjoyment, but also success level in the game, and this is echoed in this wonderful titbit of advice.

Whenever you get stuck mid-game, take a moment to re-trace your steps. Look at what has already been done, and what puzzles are still left to do. This includes unopened locks, unused tools, but mostly unsolved missions!

Why are you in the room? What are you looking for? What do you have to do to complete your mission? If you’re stuck, ask yourself these questions. They may just point you back on track.

Well, everyone, that’s it for the series! With my past four blog posts, I hope I’ve been able to inspire and assist you on all of your future escape room endeavours. Follow our tips, and we’re sure you’ll be set for success!
