Escape Room Tips: What to Do, What to Avoid, and How to Be Ready for Anything
Escape rooms are one of the most thrilling ways to test your problem-solving skills, communication, and teamwork—all while racing against the clock. Whether you’re going with friends, family, or coworkers, stepping into a themed mystery room can be an unforgettable adventure... if you know how to approach it.
Here are some essential tips for making the most of your escape room experience, including what to do, what not to do, and what to wear or bring along.
✅ What to Do
1. Communicate Constantly
Talk out loud. Share every clue you find—even if it seems irrelevant. The moment you say, “Hey, I found a red key,” someone else might respond, “Wait, I saw a red lock earlier!”
2. Search Thoroughly
Don’t just glance around—really search. Open drawers, check under furniture (within reason), and don’t forget to look up. Often, clues are hidden in plain sight.
3. Divide and Conquer
Split up when appropriate. Have some team members focus on decoding puzzles while others search the room for new items or clues.
4. Organise Clues
Keep solved and unsolved clues separate. Use a table or clear space to lay out everything you've found, so you don’t keep rechecking the same items.
5. Ask for Hints
Our rooms have NO limits on hints - if you feel you need help, just ASK. Our games host are highly trained and will also assist you if you are running over time.
❌ What NOT to Do
1. Don’t Overthink It
Escape rooms aren’t meant to require outside knowledge or advanced mathematics. If you find yourself doing trigonometry, you’re probably off track.
2. Don’t Force Anything
If a lock or object isn’t opening easily, it’s probably not supposed to—don’t break anything. If something’s part of the puzzle, it will work smoothly when solved correctly.
3. Don’t Hog Clues
Let others take a look. Sometimes a fresh perspective is all that’s needed to solve a stubborn riddle or code.
4. Don’t Panic
Even if the clock is ticking down, stay calm. Pressure can cloud thinking. Take a deep breath and refocus.
👟 What to Wear
Comfortable Clothes: You may need to crouch, bend, or stretch—avoid restrictive outfits or anything too fancy.
Closed-Toe Shoes: Trainers are a safe bet. You won’t be running, but you might be on your feet the whole time.
Avoid Heels or Sandals: Comfort and safety come first—you don’t want to trip or get your toe caught somewhere.
🎒 What to Bring
Your Reading Glasses if you need them—some puzzles involve small print.
Hair Bobbles if you have long hair—keep your vision clear and head cool.
A Good Attitude – Sounds cheesy, but cooperation and flexibility are key.
Final Thoughts
Escape rooms are designed to challenge you just enough to feel exciting but solvable. Whether you escape or not, the fun lies in the teamwork and the “aha!” moments along the way.
Approach it with curiosity, listen to each other, and remember: it’s a game. You’re here to have fun—solving the mystery is just the bonus.
