A Game Review of A Christmas Advent-ure at The Escaporium in Halifax
Earlier this month, the team at Lucardo Rawtenstall were lucky enough to enjoy a visit to The Escaporium in Halifax, as part of our festive staff day out. We were there to play A Christmas Advent-ure, the magical, holiday-inspired escape room experience, and had such a good time that we wanted to tell you all about it!
As soon as we arrived at The Escaporium, we were met with the warmest of welcomes from our lovely host Angela. Both Angela and her husband Mark are fantastic friends of Lucardo, and we are so grateful they took the time to host our group this Christmas.
So, what did we get up to? Well, as detailed in the hilarious room synopsis, the mission in this room is to help the elves clear up the chaos in their North Pole staffroom, all caused by the troublesome Drunkett the elf. That pesky pixie had a tad too much eggnog in the run up to the festivities, and thought it’d be funny to hide all the Christmas bonuses from all his hardworking colleagues!
So, it was up to us to find as many of those Polar Union Dollars (or PUDs – my new favourite acronym) as we possibly could within one hour, in order to ensure the elves got paid in time for Christmas. With twenty-five doors full of puzzles to solve, it really was quite the escape room advent-ure!
Just like our Claus for Concern room at Lucardo in Rawtenstall, the mission here is to collect as many of those hidden festive tokens as possible. And, Drunkett the elf sure had hidden them well! There was a huge range of puzzles to sink our teeth into here, from classic escape room favourites to one-of-a-kind wonders, all laid out in a fun, linear escapade.
There’s lots of fun references to all kinds of Christmas cheer throughout the experience, including a range of favourite holiday songs, movies, and activities, all soundtracked by a background playlist you can’t help but sing along to. And, with puzzles for escapers of every age and ability, you can be assured this is a fun-filled room to be enjoyed by all. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I will say that I have never left an escape room with my hands as squeaky-clean and sanitised as they were after this game!
The final cherry on top of the metaphorical Christmas cake was that Team Lucardo managed to successfully complete the room, having rescued 5230 PUDs for the elves. A fantastic result, and a very merry day out indeed. I do hope that our efforts got Simon, Molly, Ellen, Adam, and myself (Mads) onto the top of Santa’s Nice List this Christmas!
The Escaporium is set up between two truly unique Halifax sites – The Piece Hall, and Berwick St Mills. Both are easily accessible by public transport, with plenty of car parking options nearby, too. As well as A Christmas Advent-ure, there are some fantastic games to be played at this site. In fact, on the way out, we even heard some bizarre, extra-terrestrial rumblings, suggesting that a newcomer-game is set to touch-down there very soon…
So, for any Lucardo fans looking for a fun-filled Christmas day out, we’d definitely recommend visiting our lovely friends at The Escaporium. Don’t forget to tell them we sent you, and good luck finding those PUDs!
