Lucardo Rawtenstall Visits The Escaporium!

23 Aug, 2023

Join us on our Staff Night Out to Halifax!

Last Monday, the staff of Team Lucardo were let loose on a well-earned summer night out. As always, we were super excited to spend a fantastic evening visiting one of our favorite escape room venues, and I thought I’d bring you along for the journey!

Want to hear more about what we got up to, including a review of two phenomenal Yorkshire escape rooms? Read on!

After a smooth, hour-long drive from Rawtenstall, with Taylor Swift sound-tracking the girls’ car (no idea what they were doing in the boys’ car,) we arrived at Halifax.

First, food was needed, so we swung by TGI Friday’s in the city centre. There, our awesome server Jacob really got us into the celebratory spirit, fashioning a hilarious balloon hat for our recent A Level graduate Alex.

Fed and watered, we then moved on to the real adventure of the night: an escape room!

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Halifax, or even just on the hunt for the best escape games in Yorkshire, The Escaporium should certainly be at the top of your to-do list.

Set between two truly unique sites – The Piece Hall, and Berwick St. Mills – this fantastic company really does offer some of the coolest and immersive escape game experiences. It’s no wonder we keep going back for more!

On Monday, we trekked to The Piece Hall to play Crux Codicillus, a creepy, Illuminati-inspired game original to The Escaporium.

While I’m still not totally sure what “crux codicillus” means, I can tell you our mission was a tough one: to gather evidence in a Cluedo-style game, to determine which treacherous member of The Illuminati slaughtered the groups’ own king. With the clock ticking down from a very apt start time of 66 minutes and 6 seconds, we had no choice but to get sleuthing!

This room was really impressive to look at, with a great mix of logic, searching, and hands-on puzzling necessary to make our way through the game. According to The Escaporium website, this game holds a tough 5* difficulty rating, with an escape rate of only 40%. I’m actually very pleased with our team, and able to report that we made it out alive, successful, and with 20 minutes, 20 seconds left on the clock!

Not too shabby at all... right?

However, Lucardo’s adventures at The Escaporium don’t quite end there. The very next day, our directors Simon and Molly were lucky enough to head back to Halifax, this time visiting the Berwick St. Mills venue. Why?

Well, only to play The Escaporium’s BRAND NEW room, Area 51 ½!

Now, this is a room we’ve been excited about playing for quite a while! It’s been a long time coming, and we’re thrilled for our friends Angela, Mark and their colleagues at The Escaporium that the grand opening of this highly-anticipated room is now just right around the corner.

Along with kids Jess and Jacob, Simon and Molly were proud testers of the room, managing to complete the whole thing in just over 60 minutes. They've told us it was phenomenal, so the rest of the team are already planning on going and playing ourselves to see if we can beat that score. Watch this space!

To find out more about Area 51 ½ and all the other fantastic games at The Escaporium, you should visit their website here. You can also read my previous blog post, where I reviewed their holiday game A Christmas Advent-ure, here.

We can’t wait to return, and would urge you all to stop by The Escaporium next time you’re visiting Halifax. Don't forget to tell them we sent you! To Angela and co., thank you, for having us, we wish you the best of luck on the grand opening of Area 51 ½, and we hope to see you very soon!
